ABOUT THE EVENT
Since its debut in 2022, “Breaking with Convention” has become a signature networking event of Singapore Convention Week (SC Week) — a place where conversations flow, ideas spark and new connections are made.
This year, to celebrate a momentous milestone — SGLaw200, marking 200 years of Singapore's modern legal system, we gather at the historic Gillman Barracks for an evening of networking and engaging conversations with fellow members of the legal community.
Alongside delectable canapés served by Little Island Brewing Co and Hopscotch, guests can explore a curated Food Street celebrating Singapore’s rich culinary heritage, with iconic local flavours and beloved street food favourites.
LABRADOR PARK MRT
Exit Labrador Park MRT Station via Exit A and head towards Alexandra Road. Cross the road at Alexandra Retail Centre (ARC), then follow the sheltered walkway into Gillman Barracks.
GETTING THERE
Joining us from the UNCITRAL Academy Conference at Shangri-La:
 | Shuttle service will be available from Shangri-La Singapore, Island Ballroom Foyer to Gillman Barracks from 17:40 to 18:45. Event entry wristbands will be distributed to registered attendees at the point of boarding the bus. |
Making your own way there:
 | The main drop-off point for cars and taxis is at the main entrance of Little Island Brewing Co along 43 Malan Road. |
 | Nearest parking to the venue is Car Park C within Gillman Barracks and parking is complimentary after 5pm. Additional parking spaces are also available around Gillman Barracks. If you plan to drink and require a driver or drive-home services, please speak to our staff at the registration counter for assistance. |

ILLEGALS
Illegals is a band made up of lawyers and legal professionals who share a passion for music. Formed when Francis Xavier SC had the inspired idea of bringing together members of Singapore’s legal fraternity to perform outside their day jobs, the band has become a favourite at legal community events, bringing people together through music.
Often described as the most expensive band to hire not because of their performance fees, but because of the combined hourly billing rates of its members - Illegals proves that there is life beyond the law. Representing private practice, in-house counsel, legal technology and the financial sector, the band reflects the diversity and camaraderie of Singapore’s legal ecosystem.
